Bible Verse/Version
“I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.” Psalms 119:15-16
Thoughts:
As I write this today, rut is kicking in for white tail season here in Michigan. This is my favorite time of the year. Fall is beautiful in and of itself, but I enjoy the “chase” of the hunt. Cameras have been out since June to watch the progression of antler development. Food plots were planted in July. As I’ve gone over my blinds making sure they’re safe, I’ve been looking for buck rubs. The past two weeks, the bucks have been tearing up the ground, leaving scrapes behind. As I’ve watched my cameras recently, I’ve now been seeing several bucks check the scrapes that have been left behind.
Action Point:
As a hunter, I’ve trained myself over the years to look for the signs to determine how to successfully hunt, but as Christians, we need to do the same. God has left us the Bible for our benefit, and we need to immerse ourselves in it, studying the clues that he has left behind for us. Not everything is always crystal clear at first, but if you read the Bible and trust God to reveal his desires through the Holy Spirit, his plan and purpose will become evident to you. But, you have to “study” it, and that requires time. If all I ever did was show up in the fall and go out to the woods to “hunt”, my success would be minimal at best…and so it is with scripture. If you don’t spend time in God’s word, you can’t expect to become a mature believer.
Sportsman’s Tip of the Day:
If you are exploring a new area to white tail hunt in that is wooded, look for funnels, fence rows, and water and food sources with an overhead view of the area.
