Bible Verse/Version
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
Thoughts:
A couple of weeks ago, I found myself at a friend’s deer camp for the opening few days of gun season for white tail. The camp is on a remote lake, and my friend’s family owns a chunk of property there, including the northern end of the lake. In total, there are only about eight cabins on this remote lake, and as soon as we arrived, I noticed my buddy putting out his favorite college’s flag on the flag pole.
You see, the lake rule is that when you arrive to camp, your college flag needs to immediately go up. You have to raise the colors. You might wonder why this is. Well, the lake is small enough that as you look across it, you can see everyone else’s cabins and whoever might be outside. But it is far enough away that you can’t really tell if it’s the owners of the cabin or if it’s someone trespassing. So what happens is if the flag goes up, it alerts everyone else on the lake that the owners are there. If you see someone walking around a property and the flag isn’t up, the neighbors have all agreed to pay a visit to the cabin to check in on things.
Action Point:
This idea of the flag is brilliant for the neighbors on the lake, but as a Christian, it also reminds me that people are supposed to recognize me by my colors. As others see me in action throughout my days, do they look over at me and recognize the flag that I bear? Do they see Christ represented in my life? According to this verse, what they should see is: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Now, no one is perfect, but this is what we should strive for as we show our Christian colors to the world. It’s how we reveal the transformation that Christ has made in each of our lives. When your neighbors look over at you, what colors do they see?
Sportsman’s Tip of the Day:
If you are in an area where beavers are causing problems taking down trees that you want left standing, put metal wiring around the base of the tree to keep the beavers away.
