Bible Verse/Version
“...faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” - James 2:17 (NIV)
Thoughts:
I just love being in the outdoors, and so do you or else you wouldn’t be reading this. I moved to northern Michigan as a young man to take my first “real” job, not really thinking that I would make the move a permanent one. Northern Michigan is a beautiful place to live, and the longer I lived here, the more I took advantage of the outdoor opportunities that abounded in this area. And I started to notice something - as I ventured into God’s creation, I reflected more and more on His word and felt the Holy Spirit tugging on my heart.
I started journaling these adventures, along with what God was teaching me. In the middle of this, God started opening doors for me to write publicly about these moments and reflections - Sportsmen’s Devotional, an outdoors’ devotional book- Swim Upstream, my local paper, a few outdoor magazines…. Today, I truly stand amazed at God’s movement in my own life as the Lord once again has opened up more doors in this area of ministry - launching another outdoors’ devotional - Breaking Camp.
Action Point:
God has opened door after door for me to do this, so I simply try to be faithful to his calling in my life, sharing the gospel wherever I can. It’s His work in my life that has allowed this to happen.
My question for you is, “Are you allowing God to work in your life and publicly be a testimony for him to reach our very broken world?”
Each of us has a gifting, but that gifting is meant for action. It might be taking a meal to a shut in, perhaps it’s using your photography to share God’s creation with others, maybe it means hopping on your local school or library board to be a representative there for biblical values. I don’t know how God has wired you, but I sincerely would ask you to be faithful in the action part of your Christian life. This broken world needs Believers more than ever to stand up for Christ every day as a public testimony, so that the world might see the transformation that has occurred in each of our lives.
Sportsman’s Tip of the Day:
If you have felt God stirring in your soul to follow a dream in a way that you never have had the courage to pursue for Him, maybe now is the time. If God is calling you to it, he will open the doors - don’t be afraid to take those initial steps.
